Our Annual Prize Giving Lunch (maybe dinner for some) has come and gone already, and it doesn't seem that long ago that we had the last one.
Many of our members, guests and partners arrived in good time to fill the bar and have a good old chinwag before sitting down to enjoy a veritable feast, once again laid on by Paul and Kerry of Slipper dining - thank you to them.
Nigel Barrow, who several of us have regularly raced against on the Millpond entertained all of us with a recount of his exploits down under, competing in the Australian One Metre Worlds followed by a road trip up country.
Spoiler Alert - Nigel's talk will be delivered in a separate post once the audio track has been added to his slide show.
Prize giving started...with
Sailor of the year prizes for the IOM Class
Sailor of the year prizes for the DF95 Class
Awards to the three members of the management team, Adrian Rowe, Colin Gordon and David Campbell-James who stood down this year after giving many years of invaluable service to ERS
Then came ...The Julian Mandiwall Award.
A special award given annually on a rotating five-year cycle within the ESSC sailing environment, to those individuals who are considered to have made an outstanding contribution to sailing.
Congratulations Colin on winning this award in 2024 - you thoroughly deserve it.
Given to Colin Gordon for initiating our on-water program of sailing practice sessions (aka thumb control) and teaching us all the Radio Sailing version of the Racing rules of Sailing.
His willingness to turn out in all weathers throughout the year has inspired many of our members to spread their wings and sail in open meetings beyond local series racing at Emsworth and this year into Europe.
That Emsworth Radio Sailing has been chosen to award this trophy to one of its club members, is a real compliment in itself and a recognition of the part we play in promoting the sport of sailing locally.
Many thanks to Dave Cooper, Commodore of Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club for presenting it and for the support given to us by Slipper.
