Race report by Jonathan Clark
They do say that the Sydney Hobart is one of the world's toughest sailing races. But for those intrepid DF sailors the beat from K to H proved every bit as tough as PRO set a challenging 2 laps of the course.
And as for the downwind legs they were more than lively.
In these less than hospitable conditions with winds gusting at times to 35 knots rhe fleet enjoyed great racing with B or C rigs as choice dictated, some of which is imortalised in this short video:
Chris Treagust calling the start line had some close calls to make as the competitors looked to get the best possible starts. The finish line overseen by Sophie Hull also saw some very tight finishes as the fleet rolled through an 8 race series.
When the scores were all totted up by David Campbell-James, Richard Calas emerged as the winner followed home by Simon Dwyer and David Cockerill. An enjoyable morning of racing which showed the resilience of boats and skippers.
