NAILBITING FINISH to the 2024 DF95 DANCING DRAGON!

DANCING QUEEN TRIUMPHS IN NAILBITING FINISH!

For those of you who didn’t make it to the Dancing Dragon this morning, you missed a terrific day’s racing – lots of competitors and probably as many spectators.  Many thanks to David Campbell James and his team for a characteristically well run event. The wind was light but certainly enough to push the fleet around the course happily enough and with fifteen boats on the start line, there was plenty of scope for conflict coming into the windward mark

while the mark rounding at the end of the downwind leg had anything up to eight boats claiming room at the same time.

Downwind mark

Chaotic but highly entertaining, unless you were the outside boat in which case you were toast.

In the end, there could only be one winner, though. And, fresh from his recent Boxing Day win in the IOM Dancing Santa, ‘Dancing Dave’ Cockerill picked himself up from a slow start in the first half and sashayed his way to the front of the fleet with three wins in the final four races to tie on points overall and clinch victory on countback from Simon Dwyer.

Rumours that he was singing Abba’s Dancing Queen to himself as a kind of DF mantra while he sailed cannot be confirmed at this point.  It could have been Sister Sledge’s He’s the Greatest Dancer.

Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci…

You know the rest.
